Healthy Vision Month. Healthy Vision Month was developed by the National Eye Institute (NEI) to elevate vision as a national health priority. National Allergy and Asthma Awareness Month. Sponsored annually by the Allergy Council of America, this observance can provide an opportunity to increase public awareness regarding the effects of allergies on the eye well as available treatments. National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Sponsored by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, this observance is intended to promote the benefits of physical activity. A variety of resources are available on the council's Web site (www.fitness.gov).
National Stroke Awareness Month. The National Stroke Association is hoping to promote greater awareness of the symptoms of stroke as well as encourage immediate action to assist stroke victims, including ocular manifestations. Older Americans Month. Sponsored each year under a presidential proclamation by the Federal Administration on Aging (AoA), Older Americans Month is observed by the administration's National Aging Services Network of state, Native American tribal, and area (regional) agencies on aging as well as numerous community organizations that serve older adults. National Sight-Saving Month. PBA notes that exposure to ultraviolet rays can burn delicate eye tissue and increase the risk of development of cataracts and cancer of the eye.
